📰 The mindset shift that helped me create more (with less stress)

Hi Reader,

Every now and then, I get a comment on one of my videos that makes me smile.

Someone will say something like, “Great video, I didn’t even notice the edits.”

It always makes me smile for two reasons.

First, because that’s the secret.

There are no edits.

Everything I publish, from YouTube videos to full courses, is recorded in one take. (Hence the channel name 'Take One Tech')

Second, because if I were editing, I’d probably cut half of it out.

The filler words, the self-corrections, the occasional “um” or backtrack.

But I don’t. Because I’ve learned that those things don’t get in the way.

In many cases, they actually help.

They make it real.

They make it human.

And that’s why I started TakeOneTech in the first place.

We’re so used to thinking that creating something meaningful has to be difficult, time-consuming, polished, and perfect.

I think that feeling gets amplified when we’re talking about paid courses. If people are going to spend money on it, shouldn’t it look like a Netflix production?

Well, maybe it could, but it certainly doesn't have to.

Because the truth is, the most valuable thing you can offer your audience, especially when teaching, is clarity, structure, and presence.

Not perfect lighting or a three-camera setup. Not flawless delivery or fancy motion graphics.

Just your ability to show up, teach well, and guide someone through a transformation.

And that’s exactly what one-take creation allows you to do.

One-take creation is not about cutting corners. It's about streamlining flow.

It’s not lazy. It’s not reckless. It’s not about doing less work, although it is by definition less work!

You still need clarity on your message, your content structure, your learning outcomes, and your delivery.

There is preparation required, but instead of spreading that effort across scripting, editing, and production tweaks, you focus on the part that matters most: communication.

Over time, you get better at flowing with your material.

You build rhythm.

You learn how to self-correct mid-sentence without freezing.

And you start to trust your voice in a way that polished editing never teaches you.

Some things only improve in real time.

One-take creation isn’t about being flawless.

You will make small mistakes. You’ll pause. You’ll rephrase something.

That’s fine.

Because what your audience is really looking for isn’t perfection.

It’s presence.

It’s clarity.

It’s confidence in the person guiding them through the material.

When you stop trying to polish everything, something surprising happens.

You start connecting more.

You sound more like yourself.

And your message lands more naturally.

This week, I’m speaking at Ecamm’s Leap Into Video event about how to build a one-take video creation workflow.

If you’re curious about what that looks like behind the scenes, or want to explore how this approach could simplify your content strategy, it’s well worth checking out. It’s free to attend, and packed with great sessions.

SPECIAL 'LEAP' OFFER

I'm offering 25% OFF all courses to attendees of LEAP so it is only right that I also offer that here to email subscribers too!

If you’re holding back, ask yourself this...

I see it all the time.

People have something powerful to share, a course idea, a digital product, a YouTube series, but it never gets published.

Not because they’re unsure of the content.

But because the production side feels too overwhelming.

If that’s you, here are a few questions worth asking:

  • What’s actually stopping me from recording?
  • Am I waiting until everything looks perfect?
  • Could someone still get value from this even if it’s a little rough around the edges?

Sometimes the hardest part isn’t creating the content. It’s giving yourself permission to do it your way and letting it be enough.

What happens when you let it be simple?

You create.
You finish.
You ship.

And the ideas that have been sitting in your notes app or Google Drive finally start to serve the people they were meant to help.

That’s the shift.

It’s not about cutting corners.

It’s about trusting what you know is already worth sharing, and showing up with clarity instead of waiting for everything to be perfect.

4 Years on YouTube and Why I’m Starting a New Channel

In case you missed it, last week marked four years since my first video on YouTube, and also the first video on my NEW CHANNEL!

If you're curious to know more, check out the video above and consider subscribing to that channel if you are interested in building an online business on Kajabi!

Tip Of The Week

Try a one-take test. No pressure. No publishing.

Open your recording tool of choice (of course, I recommend Ecamm), and talk through one idea. Just one.

Don’t script it. Don’t edit it. Don’t plan to publish it. Just hit record and speak.

But before you do, think of this:

You’re not recording a video, you’re sending a message to someone you care about deeply. Picture that person and imagine that they need help with the very thing you’re about to share. You're talking to directly to them. You can even start by saying their name in the video!

You might be surprised by how much clarity you already have — and how little you need to make your ideas land.

It Doesn’t Have to Be Complicated

The Digital Stage Launchpad is a complete 12-week success system, created to help you build and launch your Kajabi site, course, or digital product — with structure, coaching, and support at every step.

This experience is 100% FREE when you start Kajabi’s three-months-for-$99 promo through my link.

Here’s what you’ll unlock:

✅ Three months of VIP access to the Digital Stage Academy

✅ The Ecamm Live Accelerator in July

✅ A private 1:1 strategy session with me

✅ Lifetime access to the Academy’s core tier

That's over $1,000 in value when you sign up to Kajabi using my link!

The program kicks off on May 26, but you’ll get access as soon as you sign up so you can hit the ground running.

Until next time…

Thanks for reading and for continuing to explore new ways of showing up and sharing what you know.

The gear helps. The workflow matters. But your voice is what makes it work.

Keep it simple. Stay connected. And when in doubt, just press record.

If you ever want to talk it through, just reply. I’m always here.

Have a great day,
Alec

Hi Reader, I’m going to keep this one short. I’ve been under the weather for the past few days. Nothing serious, just low energy and a bit off. I had a couple of zoom calls today and also ran a live training for the Digital Stage Launchpad Program, but truthfully, I wasn’t feeling up to writing this newsletter. Still, I wanted to show up. Because sometimes… less is enough. In that spirit, here are five reminders from this week that less can actually be more: 1. When creating a course In...

Hi Reader, Last week, we moved house. Not to a new country. Not across the world. Just about a hundred miles further south. But as I unpacked boxes and began wiring up my studio space again, I couldn’t help but reflect on something that used to feel completely out of reach. This business — my content, my coaching, my community — came with me. No break in service. No explaining anything to a boss. No downtime. No disruption. Just open the laptop, plug in the camera, and carry on doing the work...

Hi Reader, There’s a phrase I’ve said to people again and again, whether they’re just starting out or already deep into their business: Everyone has a course in them. Not everyone thinks they do. But they do. We tend to think of courses as big, complicated things. Polished productions filled with modules, slides, and studio lights. But what people really need isn’t more information. What they need is transformation. And that’s something you’ve probably already helped people with, even...
