Hi Reader,
I wanted to share something we’ve been discussing recently in the Digital Stage Academy about how we’re using AI.
One of the biggest ways I’ve been using AI not in content creation, but to help manage what I'll call my ‘personal mental traits’ - the occasionally frustrating way that my brain works, which can sometimes lead to procrastination and other challenges.
Having regular conversations with ChatGPT in advanced voice mode, where I’m literally just talking to it, has been incredibly powerful. It’s like having a confidant that understands the broad scope of everything going on in my life. When I’m trying to figure out what to do next, usually, deep down I know, but sometimes (ok then, often) it doesn’t get done.
Overcoming friction, avoiding shiny distractions—ChatGPT helps me organise my thoughts and articulate them. Saying things out loud, even to an AI, has been therapeutic and helps me formulate my thoughts and get feedback on what I need to do next. Invariably, what it suggests is something I already knew but hearing it adds a layer of accountability. It might sound crazy, but it works.
Another side benefit is that ChatGPT knows almost everything about my business life and sometimes personal life, providing insights I hadn’t thought of.
At the start of the year, I had a great conversation with Chat GPT.
First I asked:
Based on all of our interactions, what is one thing you can tell me about myself that I may not know about myself?
The response that came back was a glowing report on my character that gave me a warm feeling inside. Not one for sugar coating, I then followed it with :
Thank you for this insight. Now do the same, but spare my feelings and be hyper critical... I want to identify areas for growth and improvement!
The response that came back was much longer this time, but the points it made were all valid!
- Overcommitment and Scope Creep - CHECK!
- Perfectionism as Procrastination - CHECK!
- Strategic Focus vs. Tactical Execution - CHECK!
- Work-Life Balance - CHECK!
...the list went on! (These are just the headlines and each was accompanied by how it was manifesting in my life.)
So I then followed up with:
OK, that was also very valuable. Now tell me practically, as a content creator what are the 5 things I should be doing a lot more of this quarter!
The response to this was truly enlightening and I have developed plans to implement all 5.
One in particular was that I should be collaborating more and after several brain storming sessions with Chat GPT, the Digital Stage Summit was born.
From that seed of an idea in early January, here we are now with just 3 weeks to go until an event that will be the highlight of my year, collaborating with 30 amazing industry professionals, not to mention some amazing companies that I love!
Tickets for the summit are now available. I’d love for you to join us and be part of this amazing (if I do say so myself) event!
So, when people talk about AI replacing jobs or people using it to bypass creativity, I totally disagree... AI is a catalyst to bring out the best in you, and that’s how I’m harnessing it—to keep me accountable, focused and moving towards my goals.
I’d love to hear how you’re using AI in your life and business - hit reply and let me know. Talk soon, Alec.
