📰 Why “best practices” aren’t always best

Hi Reader,

Let’s talk about “best practices.” In particular, e-mail marketing best practices!

You know the ones I mean... the rules we’re told to follow in email marketing, launches, sales. Like:

  • Structure your launch sequence to present the offer from different angles as people need to hear the message more than once.
  • Stick to a single call to action... too many choices reduce clicks and confuse readers.
  • Send multiple reminder emails on the final day to maximise conversions.

The truth is… those “rules” work.

I know they work, because every time I’ve followed them, I’ve had someone write to me saying,

“Thank you so much for the reminder, I almost missed this.”

Or

“I’m so glad you sent that final email. I wasn’t sure, but I joined last minute and it was exactly what I needed.”

That’s why I’ve leaned into them, especially in the run-up to something like the Ecamm Live Accelerator, which starts next week.

When something could be transformational, I want to make sure people don’t miss it.

But I also know this: Some of you are not interested.

  • Maybe not in transforming your video presence.
  • Maybe just not in this course.
  • Maybe just not right now.

And maybe you’re getting frustrated.

Not because I’m sending emails, but because I’m sending emails that don’t apply to you right now, and you’re thinking,

“I love Alec’s stuff, but I don’t need this.”

So here’s what I’m doing differently from now on.

💡 A Big Button That Says: “Not This Time”

Every launch sequence email I send will have two buttons:

  • ✅ Learn More About It
  • 🚫 Not Interested This Time

If you click “Not this time,” you won’t get any more emails about that particular course, launch, or program.

You’ll still get my newsletters.

You’ll still hear about future things.

You’re not unsubscribing from everything, but rather just saying:

“This isn’t for me right now.”

Why am I doing this?

  • Because you deserve that option.
  • Because I don’t want to clutter your inbox.
  • Because respecting your attention is just as important as delivering value.

Frankly, I’m sorry I didn’t think of this sooner.

We’re all flooded with information. We don’t need more noise. We need clarity, control, and trust.

So, if you’re not interested in the Ecamm Live Accelerator, feel free to click that big button next time you see it. No hard feelings, no silent unsubscribes, no drama.

And if you are interested… well, we start Monday, and I’d love to see you inside. You'll find more details down below!

Either way, I’m grateful you’re here.

Apart from the Ecamm Accelerator, if I can ever be of any help, just hit reply! Talk soon, Alec.

Tip Of The Week

Every Best Practice Was Once a First Experiment

Just because something is common doesn’t mean it’s right for you.

If your instincts are telling you to do things differently, listen.

Most of the norms we follow today started as someone’s new idea.

Trust yourself to try the thing that feels more human, more aligned, more you.

That’s how new best practices are born.

Starting Next Week!

🎯 Ready to Take Your Video Presence to the Next Level?

In this 2-week live coaching experience, I’ll walk you through your complete production workflow, from livestreams and Zoom calls to recorded content and virtual events.

Until next time…

Thanks for reading and sorry it’s taken me this long to make it easy for you to let me know what you are (and aren’t) interested in.

It’s a small change, but I hope it shows something bigger. I value your time, your attention, and the work you’re doing.

Keep showing up, in whatever way feels right for you. And if this week’s note sparked anything new, I’d love to hear about it.

Just hit reply and let me know what’s resonating.

Have a great day,
Alec

Hi Reader, When people ask me how I use ChatGPT, I tend to start with the same answer: it depends which level you’re talking about. Most people sit at the basic level. They type in a prompt, get an output, and move on. They are basically just getting it to do their bidding. A smaller group moves to level two, treating ChatGPT as a thinking partner. They bring it into their planning, their brainstorming, their strategy sessions. It becomes a sounding board and helps them generate new ideas. I...

Hi Reader, One of the most common questions I get asked is: “How do you decide what content you share for free, and what you put behind a paywall?” It’s a fair question. Especially when I’ve been speaking at quite a few free events lately. Today, for example, I’m kicking off the free "No Editing Required" Workshop with Ecamm, which starts in just a few hours. It’s a hands-on, practical series that shows how I create all my video content in one take, without edits. (You can find all the...

Hi Reader, This Friday, I’ll be a guest on a webinar titled “Why Video is Your New Business Card.” It’s a good title... punchy and memorable. But it got me thinking, because for years, I’ve been saying something slightly different: Video is your new business suit. It’s not about style or fashion. It’s about signals. For decades, people have worn business attire not just to look smart, but to communicate things: Respect for the people they’re meeting Confidence in themselves Attention to...
