🎬 Streamline Your Studio: Removing the Friction to Creativity

Hi Reader,

Have you ever found yourself hesitating to create content because of small, seemingly trivial obstacles?

Maybe it’s the hassle of adjusting a camera angle, rearranging lighting, or setting up gear that’s not quite as plug-and-play as you’d like.

These minor things can have a surprisingly significant impact on productivity, turning into roadblocks that stall your creative flow.

I’ve been there myself. Early on, every recording session felt like a mini project, with adjustments and tweaks that ate into my creative energy. It wasn’t just about the time spent; it was the mental load of knowing I’d have to go through a tedious setup each time.

So when I set up my dedicated studio space a few years ago I ensured that my camera, mic, and lighting were all set up and ready at the flick of a switch (literally one switch). It meant I could jump into recording or meetings without hesitation.

It's also why I have a dedicated monitor on my computer where Ecamm Live (my live production software) is running all the time, ready to go without taking up space on my primary working screen.

As my studio has evolved with new gear and layouts, I'm constantly on the lookout for new points of friction creeping in.

This approach has transformed my workflow, making content creation feel less like a chore and more like the creative outlet it’s meant to be.

So, here’s my challenge to you...

Take a moment to reflect on your own setup.

What’s one small change that could remove friction for you?

Maybe it’s:

  • Assigning a single Stream Deck button to launch your entire setup in seconds.
  • Using smart plugs to power your entire setup with a voice command or automation.
  • Installing blackout blinds to control lighting at any time of day.
  • Pre-marking your tripod leg positions on the floor for consistent framing.
  • Mounting lights to the wall or ceiling to keep your desk area clear.

You may find that the smallest adjustment can open the door to far more consistent, confident content creation.

One More Thing...

you find the real friction lies in front of the camera, don’t worry—I’ve got just the thing to help with that.

Hi Reader,Recently, I’ve been working on a book version of a course I created last month. The Confidence Switch book expands on the ideas from the course into a deeper exploration of on-camera presence, visibility, and inner growth. At the same time, I’ve been thinking more intentionally about how to deliver that message as a talk. Not a tech tutorial. Not a workshop walkthrough. But a real talk. The kind that shifts something inside the audience. The kind that sticks. And that’s exactly why...

Hi Reader, One of the most common questions I get? “My image looks dark—how do I fix it?” And apart from simply needing more lighting in the room, the real answer comes down to understanding one thing: The Exposure Triangle. There are three core camera settings that determine how light or dark your image appears: Aperture This controls how wide the lens opens to let light through. A wider aperture (a lower f-number like f/1.4) lets in more light and gives you a shallower depth of...

Hi Reader, I had a call a few days ago with a company that’s rolling out a new way of delivering video—high quality, strategic, and intentional. They brought me in to show them what’s possible using tools like Ecamm Live, good lighting, solid framing, and thoughtful studio setup. As I walked them through what could be done, the head of the team paused, looked at what I’d just demonstrated, and said: “I really feel like we’re behind the times.” It really hit me. Doing what everyone else is...
