This Week's Book

Predictably Irrational

"The Hidden Forces That Shape Our Decisions"

by Dan Ariely

✍️ About the Author

Dan Ariely is a renowned behavioral economist and author, known for his fascinating insights into the quirks of human decision-making. His work explores why we often make irrational choices and how we can better understand our own behaviour.

📖 About the Book

Predictably Irrational dives into the hidden forces that shape our decisions, from the influence of social norms to the power of expectations. Dan Ariely unpacks why we often act against our best interests and offers practical tips for making better choices.

💡 Why This Book Matters

I’ve always been fascinated by behavioural psychology, because as business owners, understanding how people actually behave (not just how they say they behave) is critical. The more we understand what drives decisions, the better we can position our products and services to truly serve the people we’re here to help.

Take sales funnels, for example. Some people have a visceral reaction to that term. Maybe you’ve been in someone’s funnel before, opted into something, and felt like you were just being pitched. And sure, that happens. But if we flip the script and approach sales funnels from the perspective of someone who genuinely believes in the value they offer, then it’s not about being pushy. It’s about guiding people toward transformation.

If you know what you offer can change lives, then I’d argue it’s your duty to make that journey as accessible and compelling as possible. That’s where understanding human behaviour becomes so powerful. Dan Ariely’s Predictably Irrational brings this to life with relatable, surprising examples of how and why people make the choices they do, especially when those choices seem illogical on the surface.

This book gave me a ton of insights around how to better frame offers, guide decision-making, and ultimately serve clients more effectively. Not by manipulating, but by meeting people where they are and understanding what really drives them.

That’s why I’m recommending it to you. If you’re building anything that involves people (and let’s be honest, what doesn’t?), this will help you do it more thoughtfully and effectively.

Hi Reader,Recently, I’ve been working on a book version of a course I created last month. The Confidence Switch book expands on the ideas from the course into a deeper exploration of on-camera presence, visibility, and inner growth. At the same time, I’ve been thinking more intentionally about how to deliver that message as a talk. Not a tech tutorial. Not a workshop walkthrough. But a real talk. The kind that shifts something inside the audience. The kind that sticks. And that’s exactly why...

Hi Reader, One of the most common questions I get? “My image looks dark—how do I fix it?” And apart from simply needing more lighting in the room, the real answer comes down to understanding one thing: The Exposure Triangle. There are three core camera settings that determine how light or dark your image appears: Aperture This controls how wide the lens opens to let light through. A wider aperture (a lower f-number like f/1.4) lets in more light and gives you a shallower depth of...

Hi Reader, I had a call a few days ago with a company that’s rolling out a new way of delivering video—high quality, strategic, and intentional. They brought me in to show them what’s possible using tools like Ecamm Live, good lighting, solid framing, and thoughtful studio setup. As I walked them through what could be done, the head of the team paused, looked at what I’d just demonstrated, and said: “I really feel like we’re behind the times.” It really hit me. Doing what everyone else is...
